Information We Collect

Emergency ICE operates 100% offline with NO user accounts, NO servers, and NO data transmission.

1. Emergency Contact Information (Stored Locally Only)

All contact data is stored on YOUR device using secure local storage (React Native AsyncStorage):

Emergency contacts - Names, relationships, phone numbers, email addresses
Primary contact designation - Which contact is marked as primary
Contact metadata - Creation dates, last update timestamps

2. Medical Information (Stored Locally Only)

Critical medical data stays on your device:

Blood type - Your blood type for emergency medical treatment
Allergies - Known allergies to medications, foods, or substances
Current medications - List of medications you're currently taking
Medical conditions - Pre-existing medical conditions
Insurance information - Insurance provider name and policy number
Primary doctor contact - Doctor's name and phone number

3. App Preferences (Stored Locally Only)

Your settings stay on your device:

Theme preference - Light/dark mode or auto
Language preference - App language (40+ languages supported)
Notification settings - Reminder preferences for updating information
Onboarding status - Whether you've completed initial setup

4. Technical Information (Device Only)

Minimal technical data used for app functionality:

Device model - For compatibility and proper rendering
OS version - For feature compatibility
App version - For update management
Network status - To indicate offline/online mode (no data sent)

Important: This technical data NEVER leaves your device and is NOT transmitted anywhere.

No external access: Only you and anyone with physical access to your device can see your data
Complete privacy: No one else can see your information, not even us

Important Security Note

Lock screen access means first responders can see your emergency info without unlocking your phone. This is intentional for emergency situations, but be aware that anyone with physical access to your device can view this information.

Your Privacy Rights

Since ALL your data is stored locally on your device, YOU have complete control:

Right to Access: All your data is already visible in the app
Right to Rectification: Edit any contact or medical info directly in the app
Right to Erasure: Delete contacts, clear data, or uninstall the app to remove all information
Right to Data Portability: Export your data using the app's export feature (local file)
Right to Object: No data processing to object to - everything is local
Complete Control: Uninstalling the app removes all data from your device

Data Export and Deletion

You can manage your data at any time:

Export Data: Use the in-app export feature to save your emergency info as a local file
Delete Individual Contacts: Tap any contact to edit or delete it
Clear Medical Info: Edit or clear any medical information field
Clear All Data: Use the "Clear All Data" option in Settings (requires confirmation)
Complete Removal: Uninstalling the app removes all emergency information from your device

No account deletion needed - there are no accounts to delete!

❌ NO Crash reporting - No Sentry, Crashlytics, Bugsnag
❌ NO Authentication services - No Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, OAuth

Technical Dependencies (No Data Collection):

The app uses standard React Native libraries for local functionality only:

React Native AsyncStorage - Local device storage (no cloud sync)
React Native NetInfo - Network status detection (for offline mode indicator)
Expo Localization - Device language detection (for app translation)
React Native Device Info - Device model info (for compatibility, not tracking)
React Native Linking - For making phone calls to emergency contacts (local only)

None of these libraries send data to external servers.

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Emergency ICE is not intended for children under 13 years of age.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided emergency information in the app, you can delete it directly from the app or by uninstalling it.

What You Can Do:

✅ Edit any information - Update contacts, medical info, settings anytime
✅ Delete specific data - Remove individual contacts or medical information
✅ Export data - Save a local copy of your emergency information
✅ Clear all data - Use Settings to wipe everything (requires confirmation)
✅ Uninstall completely - Removes all data from your device

What We Cannot Do:

❌ NO remote access - We cannot view, access, or retrieve your data
❌ NO data recovery - If you delete data, we cannot restore it
❌ NO cloud backup - We cannot provide cloud backup or sync
❌ NO account management - There are no accounts to manage

Emergency Situations

Important Notice About Emergency Use

Emergency ICE is an information storage tool, not an emergency alert system:

✅ Lock screen access - First responders can see your info from lock screen
✅ Quick dial - One-tap calling of emergency contacts
✅ Offline access - Works without internet or cell signal
❌ Does NOT automatically call emergency services - You or someone else must make the call
❌ Does NOT send alerts - No automatic notifications to contacts
❌ Does NOT replace medical alert devices - Not a substitute for medical alert systems

In a real emergency:

Call your local emergency services first (911, 112, etc.)
Then use Emergency ICE to provide information to first responders
